DJ Vasile
If Romanian electronic music had a family tree, Lucian Stan (aka DJ Vasile) would be at the very root. An undisputed veteran and FM pioneer, DJ Vasile is the man who opened the ears of an entire generation in the immediate aftermath of the Revolution, transforming the radio from a simple receiver into a gateway to unknown sonic worlds.
His journey began in January 1990, when he first brought the spirit of new wave, punk and the first electronic beats into the Romanian airwaves. From being a “soundboy” in the 1980s — the one who set up the speakers for the artists of the day — he evolved into a central figure of alternative culture. He is co-founder of projects that made history, from the explosion of Șuie Paparude, to the eclecticism of NSK and the revolutionary fusion of folklore and urban sounds by Shukar Collective.
For DJ Vasile, music is not just entertainment but a “powerful weapon” and an instrument of self-discovery. His sets are true sonic landscapes, built with brutal sincerity, far from commercial constraints. After more than 30 years of exploration — moving through techno, drum and bass, dub and experimental — the artist continues to probe “banks of sounds” to deliver experiences that, as he himself says, “don’t sound like anything.”
